For Years 12 – 14 (Age 16 – 18)
AOP has provided work experience for secondary school students for many years. It provides a valuable opportunity for students to find out what research scientists do and also to gain hands-on experience of specialised software and short projects which can include using telescopes overseas. Students are also shown around the Planetarium and interact with our Education Team and our PhD students who can advise on applying for university courses and what university is like in practise. Work experience visits are for one day and are usually held in June each year.
One Day Work Experience Placement Opportunities
Applications for June 2025 are now closed.
One day work experience placements will be offered again during the 2025/26 school year. Please check back for future opportunities in due course.
STEM Learning Research Placements and Experiences
In addition to the one day work experience placements, AOP takes part in STEM Learning’s Research Placements and Experiences Programme. Information on the programme is available direct from the STEM Learning website.
