When Director of Armagh Observatory Dr Eric Lindsay created Armagh Planetarium, he gave the public-facing institution for astronomy in Armagh the freedom to pursue its own vision. Thus, Directors of Armagh Planetarium were entirely separate from those of the Observatory. Nonetheless, the two organisations naturally retained close ties through the decades. To better pursue the joint vision of astronomy research and education, we have combined together into Armagh Observatory and Planetarium in 2016, with Prof. Michael Burton the first Director of the joint institution.
