Mihalis Mathioudakis received his MSci degree in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and his PhD from Armagh Observatory & Queen’s University Belfast. His research interests are in solar and stellar astrophysics. He worked as a research astronomer at the University of California Berkeley before returning to QUB as a lecturer. He is currently a Professor of Astrophysics at QUB and Director of the Astrophysics Research Centre. He has supervised more than 15 PhD students to completion as primary supervisor. His current teaching duties include lecturing in mathematics and astrophysics, tutorial classes, laboratory experiment supervision and MSci project supervision. He is a member of the National Solar Observatory Users Committee and vice president of the European Association of Solar Telescopes. In 2021 he was awarded the Institute of Physics Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin Medal and Prize for distinguished contributions to plasma, solar or space physics.
