Professor Ruth Hunter

Ruth Hunter is a Professor of Public Health and Planetary Health at the Centre for Public Health, Queen’s University Belfast.

Her research primarily involves investigating how we can improve the environment where we live for better population health and planetary health.  She is particularly interested in research at the intersection of public health and planetary health.  She leads on research projects investigating the impact of environmental exposures, such as air pollution, light pollution, on health outcomes, for example, brain health and mental health.  Current research projects include SPACE (https://www.qub.ac.uk/sites/space/) and the GroundsWell consortium (https://www.qub.ac.uk/sites/groundswell/).  Ruth is also the director of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre on systems science (https://www.qub.ac.uk/sites/who/).  She is also very interested in research impact and science communication, and has written a comic and children’s book with AOP.
