J. Gerry Doyle

Armagh Planetarium and Observatory

Born in Armagh, Professor Gerry Doyle obtained his BSc (1977) and PhD (1980) from Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). He began working with Armagh Observatory astronomers during his time at QUB and started working at the Observatory within two years of obtaining his PhD. Prof. Doyle remains here to this day, now as an AOP Emeritus Professor. His main area of research is solar physics, with a particular focus on solar flares, but his interests include broader stellar physics as well asĀ  a good round of golf.
