Meetings & Conferences

AOP has a long tradition of hosting international conferences and meetings.

AOP is sponsoring International Astronomical Union Symposium 361 on Massive Stars Near and Far, being held at the Slieve Russell in Ballyconnell in County Cavan from 8 to 13 May, 2022.  This is just over an hours drive from Armagh.  AOP astronomer Jorick Vink is co-chair of the Scientific Organising Committee. This international conference will bring together observational and theoretical astrophysicists to discuss all aspects of massive stars, their formation, evolution and ultimately their demise as supernovae. The special focus for this conference is on massive stars in the early Universe, how they lived and died, and how they compare with massive stars in our Galaxy.

AOP will host the 5th AM CVn International Workshop, which will now take place as a live event (with virtual participation options being explored) in 2023. Before then we intend to host a virtual event (AMCVn4.5) taking place over 3 part-days in Sept 2022. Contact Gavin Ramsay if you are interested in taking part in either event.
